The Living Memorial Project
A Natural, Enduring Way to Honor and Remember City Residents

A Living Tribute for the Ones You Love

The Living Memorial provides a serene and environmentally conscious alternative to traditional burial methods.

By planting trees over the cremated remains, we celebrate life through nature's perpetual growth, offering a living tribute that beautifies urban landscapes and supports local ecosystems.

  • Goals: Memorialization and conservation
  • Approach: Coordinate and document burial ceremonies during tree planting, offering a lasting legacy for generations.
  • Community Focused: Hyperlocal memorials for neighborhood residents without physical markers, respecting city regulations.

Families and Loved Ones
How It Works

We understand the importance of creating a meaningful memorial. Here’s how our process works:

  • Selection

Choose a designated tree in either a public or private setting.
  • Coordination

Our staff works closely with families to plan and carry out the burial ceremony during the optimal planting seasons of spring and fall.
  • Memorialization

Each ceremony is handled with the utmost care, mirroring the respect of traditional funeral services.
  • Documentation

All Living Memorials are recorded in our interactive public map, which includes detailed obituaries and tree information.

Cities and Municipalities
Partnering for Greener Communities

The Living Memorial collaborates with cities and municipalities to integrate living memorials into urban landscapes, enhancing green spaces and providing residents with a meaningful way to honor their loved ones. By partnering with us, local governments can improve environmental sustainability, manage public land more efficiently, and foster a deeper community connection through shared spaces of remembrance.
